Sustainable Solutions in English Winemaking

What Fine Wine brands do you think are using their imaginations and resources to find innovative solutions for sustainable production? We’re looking at an English wine company who we think is navigating this challenge in an exciting and dynamic way.
One of the companies we think is navigating the above challenge to high esteem is The Uncommon, an award-winning English wine company who serve their delicious wines in a can. As well as being the first B Corp certified UK wine company, The Uncommon have recently announced their new charity partner, Kent Wildlife Trust. At the end of July they engaged in a pioneering new project together, where they released three bison 10 miles from their vineyard in Kent.
The Uncommon press release stated “The bison are ‘eco-system engineers’ and will transform dense commercial pine forests in West Blean and Thornden Woods into a vibrant natural woodland, creating a more climate resilient landscape. This landmark experiment aims to demonstrate the real impact nature-based solutions can have.”
Henry Connell, co-founder of The Uncommon, explained “We are very aware that the future successes of the English winemaking industry are interlinked with the climate warming we’ve experienced this week. This makes supporting our local communities and environment of paramount importance to us, to help mitigate future damage.”
This is a powerful project to support both the community and the climate, which will inspire more ground-breaking ideas and experiments from other English winemakers. With the continued shift towards shopping locally, it’s important for English winemakers to keep pushing the boundaries on what is possible in this exciting new era of winemaking.
Treacle are passionate about the Fine Wine Industry and we’re even more passionate about brands who are bold and choose creative sustainable solutions. As we all do more to mitigate the impact we have on the climate, what companies stand out in the Fine Wine industry that you think are worth highlighting?
